My name is Stevan Browning, having worked for 35 years as an executive at top consumer products companies, I thought I was set. On track. Earning enough to live comfortably in the present while putting enough away for a comfortable retirement.

How wrong I was! As happened to so many of us, the bottom fell out. The severest recession since the Great Depression. Monumental layoffs. The housing market crash. A huge drop in the value of retirement assets. Spiraling health care costs. The astronomical expense of sending kids to college (with the slim prospect of a job when they get out). Repeated tapping into the nest egg to meet current expenses. It goes on. Maybe worst of all, the pervasive fear and uncertainty—the realization that things may never again be what they were.

What I and millions of others had taken for granted as our rightful share of the American Dream has evaporated. It saddens me that so many good people who have worked so hard all their lives, through no fault of their own, are now struggling to survive. And with their retirement plans all but dashed, face an average monthly Social Security check of only $1007.

It is very easy to resign ourselves to this fate, to buy into the notion there's little we can do about it. Even as the economy starts to rebound and jobs reappear (usually lower paying ones with minimal benefits), the prospect of ever having enough money saved to carry us through retirement seems remote.

But rather than feel powerless, I've decided take the opposite approach. To be proactive. To seek out new sources of income to parallel my current earnings, to protect my family and myself financially, knowing that the institutions I once relied on can no longer be trusted to do this.

And you know what? Just the mere decision to put my future into my own hands has given me new hope, new energy, new empowerment. It's a different world out there, yes. But as I've discovered, it's one replete with lucrative new opportunities. Already I have made significant headway and am currently building an additional income source that I believe will eventually carry me through times of job loss, unanticipated expenses, and even finance my retirement years. One thing for sure is, it's all been very liberating for me.

In pursuing this new direction, I've used my decades of experience in the corporate world to carefully screen out the come-ons and meritless situations and narrow my selection down to the most trustworthy, rewarding opportunities out there. That scrutiny has paid off for me, and I am happy to share this valuable intelligence in helping others achieve their supplemental income goals, too.
